Tatting...

One other new thing I've learned to do recently is tatting. I'd never heard of it before, and we had some company visit us, and one of the ladies showed me how. Fun! It takes some patience for sure, and it was hard to get hold of all the strings at first, but the results are pretty. I saw a picture of a beautiful quilt recently - it was the Dresden Plate pattern, but the center were lace doilies stitched on. I think I'll use these little tattings for that... not much in to doilies for other things...

Little Birdie Stitches

Jen and I have been working on a block of the month called "little birdie stitches" from little miss shabby. I Love it!! I think it's so cute! It's been another nice project to have for hand work. Now I'm just waiting for the December block so I can finish it up. Aren't they cute? (Mine are the white blocks, Jen's are the light blue ones)

Progress through October!

Each finished block comes out to 8'' square... then you add little 2 1/2" squares around the border. So cute! I have someone in mind for this quilt as well - but we'll see how long it takes to finish!

Nine Patch Quilt

This is the 2nd quilt I've ever made... (finished it before the Fall quilt) and I love it. I chose colors that were bright and cheerful, and reminded me of spring.

This is a picture of the "in progress"... I added several more rows of nine patches, and added white sashing in between. It's a beauty! I will show finished pictures later.

A little project...

I made a stethoscope cover! I've got another one commissioned by mom... so I better get one that!

Fall inspired quilt

I found these fabrics at JoAnn's on sale and thought they would make an awesome fall quilt. I love how I'm affected by colors - I love when they reflect the season.

Mom came for a visit and saw them, particularly the ones with the gold woven throughout, and loved them as well... so this quilt ended up being "Mom's quilt". I need to come up with a better name for it though!

I saw this pattern in a quilt magazine - can't think of the name right off the top of my head, but I will post it shortly with the finished quilt. It is so easy!! You sew rail fence blocks and add corner triangles, and the resulting pattern is awesome! I would LOVE to make this pattern in a red/white/blue theme. Might just do that!!

I decided to add a zig zag pattern with the leftover corner scraps. I'm loving it!

Hexies!

Last year I was shown a quilt that my great grandmother made. It's hand stitched from over 2200 hexagons, and it's GORGEOUS! I will have to post a picture sometime. It's made from old, vintage style fabrics - which were authentic to her era! Anyway, it inspired me to try my hand at making hexies. I've seen them all over the blogs and they look like a good project to take when you travel. I used leftover scraps from my blue and yellow quilt and this is what I came up with...

Maybe you can tell from the computer that I'm at work... when I worked at Bozeman Deaconess, there were days that were a bit slow and I could pull out some hand sewing in between patients. 

My first hexie flower!

This is the progress so far... and I've realized just how much work it takes to get a piece of any substantial size! It must have taken HOURS for GGramma to make the quilt - it's about queen size. I'm not sure if these will progress to a quilt, but they may make it into a pillow. We'll see!

Baby Afghan

I made this for a good friend of mine that I've known all my life. (From before grade school anyway!) She had her first baby - a little boy- this past Spring. I decided to learn how to make granny squares and see what I could do with them. The finished blanket ended up a little larger than this, but I'm happy with my first ever attempt! It turned out so warm and fuzzy, I may have to make one for myself in the future. :-)
